How did you get engaged?:  A weekend getaway to North Conway, NH was booked under the pretense that we were just “getting away”. Little did she know that a ring was buried deep in my pocket the entire time. We stopped in at our hotel for dinner, but we were quickly off to Nestlenook Farm for a sleigh ride. We hopped into our chariot with Roy and Bob leading the way, two horses standing 17 hands high (Mary knows what that means, all I know is that they were BIG). I popped a bottle of champagne and quickly guzzled down three glasses. Mary looked at me sideways and asked, “Are you alright???” “Here’s to us!” I replied, hoping she wasn’t catching on. We took off and enjoyed the guided tour.

Now, she knew that I had a gift for her, as I had been carrying around a large package all wrapped up. We stopped on a bridge that overlooked the entire farm. She unwrapped her present and found that I made her a scrapbook, filled with pictures over the last four years. Some were funny, some were sappy, and some more were funny. As she came closer to the end, my heart beat faster. I took one last deep breath. This was it.

She turned over to the last page, which simply read, “Engagement Weekend”. She blurted out, “WHAT?!” Originally I had an entire speech planned out, but it was quickly canned once I realized I couldn’t get any words out over her cries. I was able to kneel down, pull out her ring and ask, “Will you marry me?” Mary replied, “yessahhhhhhhhhhhh” (I guess that meant yes, since she extended her left hand out towards me). I slipped the ring over her finger, and that was that. We became Mr. and Mrs. almost Nicholas Reay.
Tell us why you should win a free wedding:  I’m sure there are many other contestants that have more heart-warming stories than we do. Quite frankly, we were never really exposed to any serious tragedy. What I can say is that we come from two very hard working families. Growing up, our parents always provided for us, even when they couldn’t provide for themselves, simultaneously. We carried that over to our adult lives, with Mary just finishing nursing school, and I, just getting started in my law enforcement career. We’ve sacrificed not living together so that we can save up money to build our home, which will hopefully come this year.

We’ve shared laughter, tears and joy. The past four years have been the best years of our lives. Winning this contest would mean the world to us. As much as our families want to contribute to our wedding, they can’t. It would take away the financial burden, so that we can truly celebrate what is most important, our love.
